Ph.D. hiring
Prague Number theory group may hire a few Ph.D. students who would start their studies in October 2025 (an earlier start is not possible). Potential topics cover both algebraic and analytic number theory, with advisors Martin Cech, Vitezslav Kala, Siu Hang Man, Pavlo Yatsyna.
Ph.D. studies at our faculty typically take 4 years; active students receive an adequate stipend (~1000 EUR per month; this is sufficient for decent life in Prague).
Application requirements are
- curriculum vitae,
- motivation letter,
- transcripts (from Bachelor’s and Master’s studies; unofficial, preliminary versions suffice),
- (optionally) drafts of your theses or articles, and
- 1-2 recommendation letters;
they should be submitted by email to Vitezslav Kala (see Contact info); the recommendation letters must be emailed directly by their authors. Informal inquiries concerning the position are also welcome.
Evaluation of applications will start on February 1, 2025 and will continue until the position(s) are filled (it is recommended to apply by January 31, 2025).
Shortlisted candidates may be invited for a Zoom interview.
Note: The procedure described above is only a pre-selection of suitable candidates interested in number theory. The selected candidates will then have to officially apply for our Ph.D. studies (see also here for further information). The precise procedure will be specified later, but preliminarily, the deadline will be in April 2025, and the candidates will have to pass math and English exams or get these exams waived. We strongly expect that all the candidates who pass our pre-selection will also succeed in the official admissions.
